Notes: Once upon a time - early into season 2, before Steve's presence in the show was even a thing and while one of the famous Artifact victims in this story was still alive - a couple co-conspirators and I were going to do a plot based on this idea in one of my RPGs. But then loss of time, loss of character voice and the game leaving LJ conspired to kill that version, so I asked if I could repurpose what we had as a fic. The first couple scenes, especially Artie's infodump, pull from the threads we got done
